FRANKENFRUITY'S
SHOUTBOX
(if you see
this hasn't been updated in a while, feel free to write me angry emails)
Posted on: 26.4.2010 00:01
Hello boys and girls and welcome to the brand new Frankenfruity's
Shoutbox. At first glance you might think,
hey, wait a minute, this is exactly the same as it was, but you would
be wrong. See, this is what's new:
1. The Shoutbox is now much more flexible. No longer is this one html
page, that I keep updating, not at all.
Now each time you visit/refresh, the page is generated anew. What this
means is that all posts are in a database
and are retrieved as requested. Now only last 10 posts will be visible,
with a link to the older posts at the bottom.
2. This is a huge improvement in terms of adding features to the
shoutbox. Search options, tagging, etc. can now be done. Don't know
when, since I spent enough time doing this, but for sure something will
happen in the future.
3. One feature, of course, I did add. One that I thought was the most
important at the moment and in cause you haven't noticed yet
it's the comment
option. For instance you can now leave a comment on this shout
and tell me if you like this or not, as well as tell me any suggestions
or report that something is not working. Go ahead, try it. :) There is
one issue with the comment box and it's that it can be obscured by
embedded
videos. I have not yet solved this issue, but will look at it when I
have time. Until then, you'll just have to scroll up/down until it
appears.
I wonder who will be brave enough to leave the first comment. :) I hope
in the future I'll find time to leave more
thought provoking or fun/curious shouts that will deserve a comment or
even demand one. :P
So, once again, thank you for stopping by and helping to keep this site
alive.
F.

This is the last day of the first month of Frankenfruity's Shoutbox's
existance. So
far I am very pleased with how this is working. In the first month I
got around 60 visitors (less then 10 of them were me) and over 250 hits
(around 100 were mine, most in the last few days), but this number is
not important, visitors are. I'm glad to say that it seems that the
Shoutbox is serving its purpose of keeping my site from being canned.
Huzzah!
So, thank you all for participating... and as a reward of sorts, I
labored for the last couple of days while I was sick and had no will to
do anything else, trying to make use of some of the features that my
provider so generously offers, learning new things along the way,
upgrading "my mad
programming skillz", just to bring you a brand new feature. I hope
it will prove popular and thus keep this thing alive and enable me to
perhaps add more stuff in the future. Of course I will not tell you
what it is yet. No, Elln, not even you, so don't even think about it.
:P
The unveiling will happen in less than 23 hours, just after midnight on
the 26th of April. Come back then, to check it out.

is so much fresh talent out there in youtube world so I have to make
this a more regular feature than I thought it would be. I found this 2

18.4.2010 15:10 There
was chaos in the world. Planes could not fly, money was lost,
appointments broken, loved ones detached and health was threatened. All
by the massive cloud of dust in the atmosphere. It seemed unlikely, but
it clearly has happened. The Eldrazi have risen. And they were huge....
... And I had huge problems casting them despite having great deals on
getting my mints on their spawn. It was just not to be my day and only
a few cool things happened. For me, at leats. My opponents have mostly
gotten away with murder.
It will still be a memorable prerelease... though not all fondly. 24th

@10:30. Rise Of The Eldrazi
Prerelease!!! Rise of the Eldrazi is going to be a set
built around the
Eldrazi creatures, all of which have no color and are giant. For
example, there are two Eldrazi at common, the smaller of which is 7/7.
All of the Eldrazi have a new keyword called annihilator. Creatures
with annihilator have a number; whenever a creature with annihilator
attacks, the defending player must sacrifice that many permanents. The
Eldrazi are very expensive but there are cards that can create 0/1
tokens called Eldrazi Spawn that can be sacrificed to add one colorless
mana to your mana pool and will help you be able to cast the Eldrazi.
In addition, the set has a new ability called level up. You may spend
mana on creatures with level up to improve their stats and abilities.
This Limited environment is much slower than the one in Zendikar.
In the famous words of Adam Sandler... Fuck me in the goat ass!
Now, that looks to be like an awesome set. A very nice change of pace.
I'm not the biggest fan of aggro decks. Even though I like all
strategies, I prefer my combo & control. This of course means, that
those games go a bit or a lot longer than your usual clash of the
aggressive 0/1, 1/1 or 2/2 critters (I'm looking at you Zendikar) and
thus I am very excited to have an environment where games will be won
by 8/8 creatures... at least... and 15/15 at best. I already have a
deck where the prerelease monster will find its home... and I can't
wait to pick up more of the Eldrazi - doesn't matter which - they're
all pretty sweet.
I'll see some of you there! Posted on:

If A Song Could Get Me You...
Recently two songs have been stuck in
my head. Actually that's not exactly true. Only the melody of the
chorus and a couple of words here and there, I wasn't even sure were
correct, were stuck in my head. As you probably know, I don't really
listen to the radio... at
all... and so I don't really follow what the radio stations are
playing. What I do hear is during times when I'm either in a restaurant
or more commonly when playing Magic at Azi's place as he says all the
audio reproduction technology in that room is broken down to the level
of 1950s. And since radio plays the same things over and over I heard
these two songs as well... repeatedly... and they were catchy
enough to stick in my head without even paying attention.
So today, I decided to search for them, using only the bits and pieces
I remembered. First I asked Maja and since she was no help, I gave
Uncle Google a try and I was surprised that it didn't take too many
attempts to find them. The first song I found is actually too
embarrassing to admit I even had in my head, so I'll skip that one...
and the second one
I'll post now here... as it's sooooo adorable... the video I mean...
especially.
Definitely my favorite I've seen this year. And this song and video
hopefully will cure the nightmares I would have had reliving the
experience of first
song.
Maybe some of you remember Marit as a part of duo M2M, but if not,
consider yourself introduced. :P Posted on:

Do Win Conditions Matter?
As reported here
earlier there was a 5-player M10 draft on 31st of March and details
about it, including decks and drafts are now in.
It would be normal to think that I won this draft on the number of win
conditions that I managed to collect. Sleep, Sphinx
Ambassador, Rod
of Ruin & Whispersilk
Cloak can all do the job of
finishing the game for you, or at the very least help finish it by
helping your creatures and the rest of the removal suite to get the job
done. While Sphinx Ambassador never connected (once due to my own
stupidity when against Jam I thought Deathmark was an instant and
wanted to bait the Giant Growth and perform a two for one for the price
of B) it forced a scoop against Hacker where it would be quickly
equipped with Whispersilk Cloak as I was already at 9 mana and at that
point it surely was all over.
Even Sleep didn't win more than one game. Even in that game where I
managed to fuck up my Sphinx which ended up going extremely long and I
had a Merfolk
Looter out, it managed to bury
itself one card short of the very bottom in the library so I managed to
win sooner once I got enough fliers out to push through the last points
of damage.
With all those win conditions it was in fact the regular creatures with
evasion + removal that did the trick vast majority of the time. I guess
that should say something about the power level of this deck (at least
compared to the others) and at the same time show that strategy matters
more than bombs. Still, it is always comforting to know, that if things
don't go your way that you can fall upon your win conditions/bombs to
get you out of the mess. Even if it happens once or twice during the
tournament it could very well mean a large difference in the finishing
position. So, yes, win conditions do matter, but are definitely not
necessary when a deck has a general strategy with which it can win.
BTW: "Opponent has to be mana srewed" does not cunt as a strategy. At
least not a particularly good one. :) Posted on:
12.4.2010 23:50 Another week, another draft, another win.
That bastard Aži topdecked better than me in the last game to win the
match and keep me off another full point tournament. Oh well, a win is
a win is a win.
In other news:
- my phone decided that C and middle button will not be working

around a few times and now it seems to have come to its senses
- Elln is no longer here, but I still didn't get in the groove of
writing shouts here again. Hope I'll be able to manage my time better
from now on.
- Still behind on draft reports... now 3 even :(

Allies FTW
The
results of the last draft (24.3.2010) are in. This was our first draft
with Zendikar cards
and it featured Worldwake
as well (ZEN ZEN WWK). I won the event without defeat while losing only
two games in the process. The GWR combination of Allies, delivered a
fairly aggressive deck that had some punch in the mid game thanks to
Bestial Menace, Baloth Cage Trap and surprise deployment of Allies via
Join The Ranks that made good use of the already deployed allies'
abilities often growing Oran-Rief Survivalist to epic proportions.
Speaking of epic, there were two games in particular that could be
considered such. Both were me Vs. Hacker who took the rest of Green
& White cards available. In the first such match he cleared the
board with Day Of Judgment just before I could attack for the win. I've
seen the car in the draft and so knew it existed and yet I walked right
into the trap. Speaking of which I walked in to another trap a few
minutes later when I rebuilt my army and tried to attack for the win
again. This time he decimated my troops with Arrow Volley Trap and
picked off most of the rest with his creatures. There was no recovery
the third time.
Lesson was learned and in the second epic match the board got really
clogged. This time I used the time to gain a lot of life with Nissa
Revane and slowly built my Survavalist into a titan. In the meantime
Hacker tried to kill my Planeswalker with Territorial Baloth but I had
a kicked Burst Lightning to stop that once he got protection from
Green. Unfortunately I tapped all my Red mana thinking kicker needed
red as well and thus couldn't get back my Punishing Fire when he gained
8 life. This proved crucial as Nissa was picked off soon after by Cliff
Threader which Punishing Fire would deal with. In the meantime I had
over 40 life so I could afford to attack with my enormous Ally and then
force a favorable trade (when he got the bigger Baloth to attack me
with). My creatures were just bigger (as he didn't get his Strength Of
Tajuru) and thanks to Join The Ranks, more plentiful. This time I
survived back to back Arrow Volley Trap (cause I could quickly rebuild
via Bestial Menace I held back just for the occasion) and Day Of
Judgment that he was forced to play right after as he was staring at
additional 3 creatures (cause I could get superiority via instant
Baloth Cage Trap and he was only at 5 life).
It was again not Hacker's day as Azi as well, who commanded the
Blue/Black forces and had crucial Dispels to counter the Arrow Volley
Trap to allow his unblockable army to push through, won both of his
matches against him.
The amusing stories would probably have to feature Nissa's Chosen. Both
times when I had to shuffle that card back into the library (both times
hoping to bring it back to the battlefield with Nissa itself) Hacker
shuffled the card back to the top where I proceeded to draw it. That
was just cruel and I didn't find it at all amusing then (especially the
second time it happened) but now I can appreciate it for what it is. It
was ironic cause he didn't see the point of doing that in the first
place and once we established that I could draw it, that's exactly what
happened. On one further occasion Azi had a Hedron Crab on the
battlefield in the beginning of the game and immediately milled my
Nissa's Chosen in the one and only try. Of course I cast Nissa later in
the game... and she was sad cause she didn't have her playmates.
This result now means that for the second draft in row I have broken
the record for the best rating. It's now 1738. Hacker in second place
is now quite far away with 1664, but there is a new draft today.
5-player drafts are K12 and a good performance can close the gap
quickly. Given how he won both 5-player drafts so far, that does not
seem very unlikely.
Another interesting bit is that Azi is only 2 points behind Hacker in
the current draft standings while I have once again broken the 10 point
average.
More detailed numbers along with the decks used can be found on the MTG page. Posted on:

All of the Goblins have a new goblin called goblin. Goblins with goblin
have a goblin; whenever a goblin with goblin goblins, the goblin goblin
must goblin that many goblins. The Goblins are very goblin but there
are goblins that can create 0/1 goblins called Goblin Goblin that can
be goblin to goblin one goblin goblin to your goblin goblin and will
help you be able to goblin the Goblins. In addition, the goblin has a

Welcome to my shoutbox. This is going to be a place where I post
(mostly non)sense in hope that this will keep my account from
constantly being under the threat of cancellation. The idea is that
since I'm forcing people to click on my site once a week, I should at
least make it a tiny bit more interesting, by putting some content on.
I have put a counter on top of the page, so we can all monitor how many
visits this page has received. As long as it gets about 10 hits in 2
weeks, it should be ok, but I'm hoping for slightly better, just in
case. This page might have some potential for evolution, but I'd rather
not speculate about it for now - one step at the time. New posts will
